KERICHO COUNTY ASSEMBLY PROCEEDS ON RECESS AFTER INTENSE LEGISLATIVE SEASON
After months of rigorous deliberations, heated debates and critical decision-making, the Kericho County Assembly as officially proceeded on recess, marking the end of a demanding legislative session. The break comes as a welcome pause for Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), who have been immersed in a whirlwind of activities ranging from oversight hearings to community engagement activities.
The recess scheduled in accordance with the assembly’s plenary calendar, follows a period marked by high-stakes motion, including impeachment proceedings against several County Executive Committee (CECs) members, scrutiny of financial reports and vetting of the new key officials. These activities has not only tested the resolve and diligence of the assembly but has also underscored its commitment to transparency, accountability and service delivery.
A session define by oversight and accountability, one of the critical role played by the assembly was just concluded, with the CEC for Finance appearing to respond to queries on audit discrepancies and budget implementation. The engagements were crucial in ensuring public funds are properly utilized and in line with the law.
Beyond oversight, MCAs remained active in their wards, engaging with residents to gather feedbacks and address pressing local issues. This dual role, legislation in the chambers and representation on the wards (ground) level has kept members on their toes, making the recess not just a break, but a necessary moment for reflection and recharging.
While the recess signals a temporary halt in plenary sittings, it does not mean complete shutdown of Assembly operations. Committees may continue to meet on urgent matters, and MCAs are expected to remain accessible to their constituents. The recess offers an opportunity for members to reconnect with their communities, assess the impact of recent legislation and prepare for the next session with renewed vigor.
The speaker of the county assembly Dr. Patrick Mutai commended the members for their dedication and resilience, noting that the session had been one of the most productive in the recent years. “This recess is well deserved after a great productive session that was full of activities.
