Women celebrate International menstrual hygiene day.

28th  May each year, the world marks the International Menstrual Hygiene Day. This is an annual awareness day to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level.

Menstruation is an inevitable part of women lives hence good menstruation practices form a key part of good health for women and girls. On this important day, a team of women from our assembly chose to visit two Children’s homes within Kericho county that is Bethel Home and sitotwet children’s Home.

The team left the Assembly grounds with one key message: to meet and sensitize vulnerable girls on importance of menstrual hygiene and donate the menstrual products they need to maintain the hygiene.

Not having access to menstrual hygiene management products can keep girls at home from school during each month. Availing menstrual products protects the dignity of the vulnerable girls during menses and helps keep them at school while experiencing their monthly menses. This reduces the number of girls dropping out of schools and also decline in number of child pregnancies. As more girls get educated, the poverty cycles are broken.

Nominated women MCAs : Hon. Emily Kerich and Hon. Wangare Njuguna were present during the visitations and took their time to talk to the girls on hygienic practices to avoid menstrual infections and encouraged them to avoid teenage pregnancies that could interrupt their education and bright future.
